Trying to Upgrade Laptop Ram, Won't Boot

Hi All,

I have purchased some new laptop ram for my Asus X55L notebook. It currently has 4 GB and want to double it to 8 GB. After I install the new ram, the pic fails to boot, does not even get to the bios.

Current ram is labeled as SK hynix 4GB 1Rx8 PC3L - 12800S - 11 - 12 - B4 - HMT451S6AFR8A - PB N0 AA 1347C

New ram is Kllisre 8GB DDR3 1600 PC3-12800S-CL100

Thought I would ask the question to anyone who may know more about this subject before I send it back... thanks in advance!

  1. please try to use new ram alone for testing - if you want to be sure, try to use the new one in another device - so we can at least see, if we have incompatibility issue or dead on arrival ;)

p.s.: normally that ram should do, for "beginners" (no offense intended) it's easier to buy identical ram and consult qualified vendor list for compatibla ram modules

  2. Best answer
    SK hynix 4GB 1Rx8 PC3L - 12800S - low voltage
    Kllisre 8GB DDR3 1600 PC3-12800S-CL100 - not low voltage

  3. overseen low voltage, shame on me - many thanks rgd!!!

okay, low voltage and your notebook means, you need to run memory with 1,35V - but the new model just supports 1,5V and will not work with 1,35 V

^^suggest to return the new one and select rgd's answer as solution
