Older Win 7 Pro system disables GTX 660Ti driver due to error msg from card.

That's basically all the info the driver tells me. I tried uninstalling the driver and rebooting, and also tried a clean install of the latest software. The Nvidia software says the driver was installed correctly but once I do the reboot windows disables it again.

I'm using Win 7 Pro 64bit on this older computer which I set up for my mom.

Is my next step to take the card out and give it a good cleaning with compressed air? I also need to check the case vents to see if dust is blocking proper air flow.

Thanks!

Edit: I should add that because of a problem about a month ago where I booted up to just a black screen and a cursor I ran a chkdsk /r and it did find several bad sectors in areas that would be bad for windows. But, chkdsk was able to recover the info and after that the old girl ran fine until just this week. So, since I've run a chkdsk so recently I'm not sure if another would be beneficial or not.

Edit 2: I ran another chkdsk and it found a couple bad sectors but nothing huge. a few kb worth of data but it didn't fix the problem. I then removed the graphics card from the case and gave the card and all case components a good blast of compressed air to remove dust although there wasn't much. I still have the problem and really could use some suggestions on how to fix this or get around it.

  1. Turns out it was the HDD. It's dying a somewhat slow, painful death. I've since put in a 250GB SSD and my 660Ti reads as working fine in the device manager. Currently when I boot up to the old drive half the software won't even run. I might check it out for some stuff to save but I think I already got most of it when I moved over to my current system. It's actually the first drive I've had thats actually failed on me and I've been using PC's since the early 386 days. Not to shabby if you ask me. :)
