AMD - Overclock G.Skill RAM Only

Hi i recently bought a new setup.

Ryzen 5 1400
Gigabyte AB 350 gaming 3
G.skill Trident RGB z 3000mhz
Gigabyte GTX 1050 G1 Gaming

I'm running at 2133mhz currently and i want to achieve atleast 2933mhz. I tried to overclock the RAM i failed twice and succeeded at my 3rd try. However its still not showing as 2933mhz maybe i did something Wrong.

I havent update my bios though. So i just wondering if i update it does my ram will automatically adjust? or do i need to overclock it after i update the bios?

I tried updating bios on APP CENTER of Gigabyte but it failed so i don't now how to update it manually. THank you

  1. Definitely update your bios first, they have come a long way since launch.

You should be able to put the updated bios file on a usb drive and update it inside the bios itself.

  2. Ok i don't know much about bios or something. And i'm afraid to touch since im not very familiar with. I might search for a specific guide or tutorial for this. Thanks for the info.

  3. As dawsilhelm said, update your bios. Also, give Ryzen master a try. I hit 2933 with my first try on G.Skill 3200 rated memory sticks by SK Hynix using Ryzen master

I think i got the idea why the APP CENTER failed to update my BIOS because i selected the whole RAR File instead of the f7 file inside it. Can APP center update the bios? or should i do it directly on the Bios itself?

  7. I update my bios using app center and i didnt encounter any problem. Now the Ryzen Master app is the issue it says there's a missing DLL.

  8. Reinstall Ryzen Master. Also if you just want to set ram timings, do it in the BIOS.

  9. i tried it. still having issues i dont know why. and for the timing as you know im not familiar with bios so i just want to use atleast 2933mhz of ram for my setup

Just be aware that ram speed is still an issue on Ryzen and to hit 2933 you might need to increase the voltage or loosen the timings. i have a CL15 3000mhz in my ryzen build and cant get it stable past 2666mhz. im waiting on bios improvements now.

  11. ok that make sense i might wait for some updates on it. i need to have be on the safe spot on doing this. Thank you for the info i will just leave it running at 2133mhz. thanks

  12. try loading the XMP profile, and set it to 2666mhz, might work well, if not it wont hurt anything and you can always change it back.

  13. ok i will try. do i need to change the voltage ? or leave it as auto?
    Reply to ZayusYenn
  14. i would leave everything auto, but load the XMP profile for your memory, and just change the the speed to 2666mhz.

  15. Ok i will try loading XMP Profile 1 and set it to 2666mhz thank you so much for your time i will try that. If anything happens bios settings will reset right?

  16. if it fails to boot it will put the settings back at 2133 and reboot itself.
