I am wondering if i buy two identical GPUs that are SLI compatable do i just hook up one monitor to each ( i have two monitrors) or what? or does it not matter. also what would happen if you had two GPUs but only one monitro? would that still work?

In SLI mode video outputs of one card get disabled. You can hook up monitors to only one card.

BTW - your motherboard has to support SLI also. Not all support that.

  2. SLI requires a motherboard capable of SLI. You can use the outputs on just one of the GPU's.

SLI has it's issues and it's always preferable to get one powerful card.
