Upgrading old PC ADVICE

Hello there,

My current pc specs:

Motherboard: AsRock N68C-S
RAM : 8GB Hyperx Fury 1600 Mhz
CPU : AMD Athlon II x4 630
GPU : ATI Radeon HD 5750 1GB GDDR5 128bit VTX
Power : MS Industrial 500W (STOCK)
SSD : AMD R3 260GB
HD : 500GB WD

I was thinking to replace 630 with 640 or Phenom x6, since i don't have money for intel setup.
And 5750 HD to replace with something better.
My prio atm is Power Supply since its stock.

Any suggestions are welcome, thanks in advance ! :D

  1. It would be useless to switch to 640 but Phenom II x4 or x6 would be much better. PSU should be good enough for a better PGU too, have a look at prices for Rx 550 which should be a good match for new processor and doesn't need any more power from PSU.

Yes, that should be much better than what you have now. GPU alone is twice as powerful and Phenom has higher amount of cache.

So basically phenom got 2 more cores/threads, significantly higher cache/cache per core which i think is a good buy.
    Thanks mate ^^
  5. Yes, that one has 2 more cores but it's not an advantage for everything, mostly for older games that are mot single threaded for which higher frequency is more helpful.
  6. I would seriously consider getting an Intel Pentium G4560 (around 60 bucks) with new mainboard and RAM, then sell your old stuff on ebay.

Investing in such an old platform is wasted money imo.

With modern budget hardware, you'll get much higher performance increases, it will consume less power and would be much more future-proof.

    Upgrade old build: Phenom II X6 1055T (~60$) + RX 550 (~90$) = 150$ in total

    New base + sell old stuff: G4560 (60$) + MSI B250M Pro-VD (65$) + 8GB DDR4 (55$) + RX 550 (90$) - Athlon II X4 630 (20$) - ASRock N68C-S (45$) - 8GB HyperX Fury DDR3-1600 (50$) = 155$

For a mere 5$ you can get a modern system instead of investing in your old system!

    Just my opinion :P
