Questions about Nvidia Volta and GDDR6

I rebuilt my gaming PC about two months ago due to my old build developing a fault in the motherboard. I replaced most of my components. One of the few components that I held on to was my Asus GTX 970 Strix GPU. I game at 1080P and have lately been playing older games such as the Crysis and Mass Effect trilogies and 1990s games on Steam and GOG. I have also used Phoenix Flight software. For the past 14 months the GPU has met most of my graphics needs. I was planning to replace the GPU this summer if Nvidia either released a Pascal refresh or its new Volta line. However, it does not look like Nvidia is going to release a refresh of the GTX 1070. With regard to Volta, should I wait until 2018 and replace my 970 with a Volta GTX 1170 or 2070 or should I go with the 1070? Also, I have heard the saying that people should give a new technology a year or two to be debugged, fixed, or resolved. It was just reported that Volta would be released with GDDR6 capabilities. Were there any performance issues or bugs when GPUs transitioned from GDDR3 to GDDR5 and GDDR5X? Is there a possibility of performance issues or bugs when the GDDR6 GPUs are first released? If Volta does come in GDDR6, would my computer be capable of running it? My system specs are listed below. Thanks in advance.

personally i'm waiting for volta to drop as well before upgrading my 970. but about GDDR6 i'm not sure if there will be much issue. it seems the tech is just further advancement of current GDDR tech only with faster speed and much lower power consumption? your current PC will work just fine. you got one of the latest i5 on the market.
