Samsung 960 PRO NVMe M.2 512GB SSD

Hi. Does the Samsung 960 PRO NVMe M.2 512GB SSD Work on a MSI Gaming 5 Z97 Motherboard? Will there be any decrease in performances or will it be using its full potential and speed?

yes it will be a bit slower than other boards that support pci-e x4 through the slot, however, the performance deficit only really shows when you do some large file transfers.

on a side note, have you considered getting the 960 evo? unless you are doing some serious video editing, the performance difference between the drives are minimal at best

  3. I had a similar issue with my x99 board. Only running pci-e 2x speed.
Picked up an adapter card, that fixed the issue easily. Cheap too, $29 AUD.
