Intel i5 6500 with Asus Strix GTX1050 ti OC 4GB vs Intel i3 6100 with EVGA GTX1060 SC 3GB

Hello guys.
I am very new to pc building and will be building a gaming rig for running MMO games, mainly League of Legends, and other games, as well as doing schoolwork and other stuff (not while gaming at the same time of course). My question is, which CPU and GPU combination would be best for playing League of Legends at about 100-200fps, an Intel i3 6100 with the EVGA GTX 1060 SC 3GB, or an Intel i5 6500 with an Asus Strix GTX 1050ti OC 4GB?

The rest of my systems specs:
MOBO: Asus Z170 Pro Gaming
PSU: 500W Bronze certified EVGA
HDD: WD Blue 1TB HDD
RAM: Standard 8GB DDR4
Case: Corsair Carbide Series SPEC-01
Expansion Card: TP-Link Wireless WiFi Adapter (PCI Express)

(My overall budget is about $500-$600)

  1. You will get better performance from an i3 6100+GTX 1060 3GB in games. I'd recommend the i3 7100 over the i3 6100 as its only about $7 more, and the 4GB RX 480 over the GTX 1060 3GB.

If you are planning to maybe upgrade your processor again in the future to a nice i5 7600k or i7 7700k to take advantage of your very nice motherboard, i would recommend this.

    CPU: Intel Pentium G4560 3.5GHz Dual-Core Processor ($59.63 @ OutletPC)
Video Card: Zotac GeForce GTX 1060 6GB 6GB AMP! Edition Video Card ($239.99 @ Amazon)
    Total: $299.62

The G4560 is a little beast of a processor for its price, being barely weaker than the i3 6100 at a much lower price. This reduce in cost would allow you to buy a GTX 1060 6GB. I would rank the cards like such: 1060 3GB> RX 480 4GB> RX 480 8GB/GTX 1060 6GB.
  2. I agree. For web browsing and word processing (as well as most games), Ghz are much more significant than cores. Buying an i3 or pentium will let you be able to get a nice GPU.

Alright. Thank you for the responses. I might switch over to an rx 480. Do you think you can link me to one that costs about the same amount as the GTX1060 3GB I linked?
