M2 SSD on Asus B150 D3 motherboard

Hi, I have got a Asus b150 d3 motherboard https://www.asus.com/uk/Motherboards/B150-PRO-GAMING-D3/specifications/

Can I run on it a "Samsung 960 EVO M.2-2280 250GB PCI Express 3.0 x4 NVMe Solid State Drive"? More importanly, iif I can run it, can the motherboard boot from it? Can I have my Windows on this SSD and run smoothly on this motherboard using the M2 slot? Thank you, Sorin

  1. The link doesn't work. Is it the B150-PRO D3, B150 PRO GAMING D3, B150M-A D3, or a different board?
  2. I mean I can see myself that it has got the M.2 slot. I am more worried if I am gonna have problems booting the windows from the SSD.

Usually a BIOS update is released so it supports NVME. None of the updates for yours say this

Altho the specs say this 1 x M.2 Socket 3, with M Key design, type 2242/2260/2280/22110 storage devices support (Supports both SATA & PCIE SSD)*2

I take it that means it can

Hopefully you'll be installing Win10. Because you'll have to slipstream 2 updates with Windows 7 to get an NVME to work
  4. I currently have windows 10. I am planning to migrate my current OS from HDD to this new SSD. Do you think that I will encounter any issues?
  5. It may or may not work if you migrate the OS. Altho setting up an NVME so it'll boot is different from a hdd or SSD

You have to configure the BIOS for an NVME then add drivers so the BIOS can detect it first

Before you can install on it
