Z270 - Is the Gigabyte HD3 a good choice for i5 7600k overclocking? + ASUS TURBO GTX 1060 size question

Hello all, I'm about to complete my new gig, here are the components I have in mind, I'll be purchasing all of them at once from my retailer some time this week.

Intel i5-7600k
Gigabyte Z270 HD3
Corsair Vengeance 2x8GB 3000MHz
Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200rpm
CoolerMaster K280 500W

Obviously I'm looking to OC my 7600k and use this gig for as long as I can (at least 5 years). I'm not into SLI / Crossfire and will be gaming at 1080p for the time being. The HD3 is the cheapest Z270 I can get my hands onto atm, so it a good choice for me?

I'm thinking about getting a GTX 1060 and had the MSI 6GT OCV in mind, but the ASUS TURBO went on a great sale just yesterday on my store and is now cheaper. I've read and heard I should get the cheapest 1060 possible as they are all similar in performance, so I'm planning to go for it. It is a rather long card at about 26 cms, and I'm having worries about fitting it into a CM K280, which supports up to 31 cm cards, and also the HD3 being an ATX mobo, would I have problems in terms of space?

I would love to hear all opinions and suggestions regarding any component and of course the questions I've posed, thanks in advance!

  1. If you had lower budget and don't oc the i5 like crazy, then it is a good choice.
And you should avoid to buy the case/PSU like your CoolerMaster K280 500W, because that PSU is not the good one. The info for how to choose a good PSU http://www.tomshardware.com/t/power-supplies/

You did get the info from CM and ASUS, the GPU ( about 27cm) will fit into the case.
  2. Thanks for the answer mate. I ended up deciding to spend a little bit more and go for the Gigabyte Z270 Gaming K3 and with ASUS GTX 1060 DUAL.

But I'm still looking for a case / PSU combination. I'm aware the cases such as CM K280 that come with a PSU included are really subpar, but I don't have any room in my budget now that I picked more expensive mobo + gpu, and those PSU included cases are really the saving grace for me atm.

I'm not sure where to open a new thread about it, so I'll ask here. What do you think about the Corsair Carbide 100R or Thermaltake Versa H23? They both come with a 500W included PSU, but there are no specifications as to what the actual PSU model is.

You maybe not from USA, because I can't find the info about them too. If you have to choose one from those, maybe take the Corsair Carbide 100R.
But if you have tight budget, recommend you to buy the z270 HD3, and get a better PSU, because GPU/CPU/PSU are important for games, the MB is not important. For your PC, a good 500W PSU is more than enough, even the 400W too. And don't cut the corner on the PSU, which is the heart of the PC. Like you said those PSU is really subpar, if they are, you will end up buy other one, and you will spend more.
  4. Yeah, not from USA and I have already made the purchases on the mobo + gpu + cpu. I'm still looking for the case + psu combo and have some time as the other parts are in the process of being shipped from Amazon and I'll just buy the case from a retailer somewhere here in Turkey.

I've come across the Aerocool GT 500W, here's the link for it (it's in Turkish). https://www.webdenal.com/aerocool-ae-gt-500_768014.html

If you scroll down a bit it says the model of the PSU is AE-VX500. However in the PSU tier list there is an Aerocool GT500s, which I believe is completely different thing. Considering the AE-VX500 is not even on the list, I should just go for something else?
  5. That PSU is not good.
  6. I would try to send a little bit more and go with the Z270 Fatal1ty, when you plan to overclock your CPU and memory you really want to have a decent board under their "pins" :D
  7. As I said, I settled on the Gigabyte Gaming K3, which from the reviews I read has a decent OC'ing performance. For the case I think I'm gonna go with the Aerocool GT Advance w/o a PSU and get the ANTEC VPF550 as my PSU. Sadly it is the only decent PSU from the tierlist that is available and can afford atm.
