Swapped motherboards now pc wont boot

Long story short - I have 2 cases with 2 motherboards - atx and micro atx.
Ive changed between the two before and had no problems but this time It decided not to work.
I have made sure everthing is plugged in properly no loose connections
I made sure that my boot priority was set to the hard drive and nothing else - still no better.
I then checked in the bios that everything was showing up - everything was fine, the hard drive showed up fine no problems.

PROBLEM- PC would not boot gets past asus screen but then black screen with blinking cursor. I read up some threads saying it may be a dead harddrive but that cant be because it was working fine 30 minutes before I decided to change the cases over.

please tell me whats going on - for once ive got a pc problem I cant find help on!

thank you

More about swapped motherboards wont boot
  1. Reinstall windows if you didnt
  2. black screen with blinking cursor.

means its not finding a bootable device

and just because your hard drive worked 30 minutes before doesnt mean it works now

people always say that--but it worked before---yes everything that breaks worked before lol

Okay will do that first thing in morning - how do I reinstall windows without wiping the hard drive ? and how exactly does this problem happen because like I said its worked in the past when I swapped them - just really confused !
    Thank you
  4. So you have a HD and it has all the hardware drivers for one set of hardware and then you put it a different MoBo with different chipset, on board LAN and audio, etc. So it's trying to load drivers for hardware it can't find and sees hardware for drivers it can't find. If that works, it should be a big surprise.

    Try a windows repair

I connected up my disc drive and popped windows disc jn for repair but then I come across a message saying " this version of system recovery is not compatible with this version of windows you are trying to repair " I read to boot into uefi mode but I cannot find the option anywhere?
  6. You'll have to wipe the hdd if you put another hdd into one with completely different hardware

    Otherwise you'll have probs
