has my motherboard died

Long story short I mixed two ram sticks together and stupidly started messing around with it as it was still on removing and reinstalling the ram sticks . Now it's not posting however the orange light is lighting up on the motherboard. The cpu fan spins and my gpu fan spins aswell but stops after 10 seconds as it isn't been used. I've tried taking the silver battery out and putting it back in and tried bridging the cmos . Has it died and have you got any ideas on how i could fix the problem
Thanks

  1. Sounds to me like it's borked.
Or it could be the RAM. If you can get another stick of inexpensive RAM you could try it.
Just make sure it's off before you do anything.
  2. I've got a corsair one which was bought yesterday and it still doesn't work . However the monitor when I plug the hdmi cable out instantly reacts but it just says no signal from the hdmi and goes black
  3. ANY ideas ???
  4. First mistake was to try and do anything with the ram while the computer was on. You may be able to get different sticks of ram and it will work. Hopefully you only fried the ram sticks and that's all. If you replace the ram and it still doesn't work you nuked the board. Good luck.
  5. How could I have fried the ram sticks and and everything else be working on my motherboard and spinning like normal

At this point you don't know that "everything else is working". Spinning fans only mean that power is getting to them.
Giving us some specs on your computer would help, like the make and model of your motherboard.
It would also help us to recommend a cheap RAM stick for you to try and give us some idea of the meaning of the orange light.
  7. I haven't i3 6300
    Gigiabyte b150m d2v ddr3 motherboard
    1 stick of hyperx 4gb ram ddr3
1 stick of corsair select value 4gb ram
    1tb hdd
  8. *I have
  9. When I turn my pc on now the gpu fan spins for longer .
  10. First of all you should never mix different manufacturers of RAM. It is just asking for trouble.
You could buy one stick of 1GB RAM for around $20 and try that.
I'm not sure what the orange light means because the manual doesn't mention it but it could mean a problem exists.

I would try to avoid turning on the PC just to see if anything has changed. Try doing what we suggest.
  12. I might aswell just buy a new motherboard and ram . Do you think Any other components such as the cpu could have been damaged and can I reuse my cpu in my a new motherboard

I suppose you could do that if you wanted to but if it turns out that you only borked your RAM why buy a new motherboard?
You can't do any more damage if you buy a cheap 1GB RAM stick and test it and if the test fails, take the RAM stick back and buy a new motherboard and RAM.

Fans spinning tells you absolutely nothing outside the fact that the power supply is on and giving power. Forgot to mention that all current processors have direct connections to ram. They do not go through the chipsets. Doing anything with the ram while the computer is on could have easily killed your processor. Hard to tell at this point. Install only the new stick of ram and see if it starts up. If not look next to the led that lights up and see what it says. Most any motherboard will have printed what it is for. That will tell you if the ram is bad or the processor. Read page 10 of your manual. You will see what i mean about turning the power off.
  15. Where is the orange light located?
  16. Bottom left
  17. What's the chance of my cpu being fried then . I'm getting pretty scared now
  18. One thing at a time.
Does your system have a speaker attached to the motherboard? Do you hear any beeps when it boots?
  19. No there's no beeps it just goes through the normal procedures such as cpu fan spinning and gpu fan spinning . The orange light was on when my pc was working btw . When I unplug my hdmi cable my monitor instantly reacts but says no hdmi signal and then turns black
  20. Do you have a speaker attached to the motherboard? It would be attached to the F_PANEL header (see page 16 of your manual).
If you don't that would explain why there are no beeps. Some computers don't have a speaker.
Are you still trying to use the RAM that you may have broken? Don't!
  21. Yes i was but I'm not now .I was so basically I should by new tan and try that and see what happens . Is the chance of my cpu being fried low . Kinda need to know
  22. *ram

Yes buy new RAM (a cheap 1GB Stick).
And if you need a speaker for your motherboard, you could buy one like this...

    https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812201032&cm_re=motherboard_speaker-_-12-201-032-_-Product

If the motherboard beeps after installing it, the number of beeps could tell you which components might be faulty.
  24. Low chance of my cpu being fried then??

Unable to say at this point.
    If you can't find a 1GB RAM stick, get a 2GB stick.
The recommended RAM list is here...

  26. Would the monitor even recognise i was unplugging the hdmi cable from my gpu as the computer won't work without the cpu right??
  27. Best answer
Turn if off and go buy the RAM and beeper.
  28. Ok sorry for being so persistent it just scared me . Thanks for your help I appreciate it
