How to install windows 7 64x on new laptop with usb 3.0 ports only ?

Hi there,

The purpose of Windows 7 - just on the second drive for car diagnostic tool software, otherwise on windows 10 won't work.

Laptop motherboard - gl702vt

I tried to install windows from USB CD DRIVE disc, USB flash drive and SD card.

In all three options I have this error 'No device drivers were found. Make sure that the installation media contains the correct drivers, and then click ok'. I also tried different ways switching off and on legacy support, safe boot etc.

After a research I think USB 3.0 cannot be recognised by windows 7 installation setup, is there any way around to get windows 7 installation setup working?

  1. You need to include the usb drivers into the windows that you load to do the install.
I think the term is to "slipstream"
I have not done it, but I know it can be done.
  2. Thanks for your reply.

What drivers should I include, there is none for windows 7..

So - you have windows 10 already on the computer?
You can install windows 7 by running setup from windows 10.
Just prepare partition for windows 7 before doing that.
And copy windows 7 install to the hard drive (that way missing USB3 drivers will not impact installation).
Also prepare windows 10 installation media, because you may need to fix bootloader after installing windows 7.
  4. Newer laptops will not have any windows 7 driver support.
    Nor 32 bit support either.
    Thank you Microsoft.

If you need windows 7 buy a older gen laptop for the purpose.
  5. W10 doesn't have a "Run W7 compatibility mode?"
  6. I tried to install windows 7 while on windows 10 but then PC restarts after installation files are copied and everything is gone.
  7. jefecito - thanks for your answer, it worked, it did let me go to installation page and I can finally choose what disc I want to use for installation.

But now I have another problem, I can't install windows on my chosen drive, it says ' windows cannot be installed to this disk. the selected disk is of the GPT partition style'

I had a look online and found this 'http://www.disk-partition.com/articles/selected-disk-is-gpt-partition-style.html

Tried using both ways and they didn't work. In'Diskpart' only one hard drive disk showed not divided parts... and ' third-party software' for partition there is no such a thing 'Convert to MBR Disk' only for full disc drive.

    Any ideas?

  9. Post screenshot from Disk Management.

What you can do is either install win7 x64 in UEFI mode or
clean the hdd and install in legacy mode.

Windows 10 will not be lost. You can reinstall it after that, but it has to be in installed same mode (uefi or legacy) as windows 7.
