Question: Can I install an Intel i7-5820k CPU on an AMD motherboard?

Hey guys,

I've almost ran on of options, and it looks like this is my last resort. I've got a question that hopefully, someone can answer for me, as I am not that experienced in terms of PC Hardware.

I'm looking to replace my current AMD processor/CPU with an Intel Core i7-5820k 3.3 GHz 6-Core Processor. However, I currently have an AMD A-10 5700 APU with Radeon HD Graphics, 3.4 GHz processor, and I was just curious if it were possible to replace that with what I mentioned above (Intel)? Or would that require an entire new motherboard that supports the CPU?

System specs:

CPU: AMD A-10 5700 APU with Radeon HD Graphics, 3.4 GHz (Newest Corsair fan that supports my GPU)
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 6GB
Operating System: Windows 8.1 64-bit based PC
System Memory: 12GB

If anyone can help me out, I would appreciate every answer very, very much!

  1. No.
You need a new motherboard (and RAM)

    1) Why the i7-5820K?

    2) I suggest holding off for RYZEN price announcements.

    3) You also need to replace Windows.

    4) So that is:
    a) CPU
    b) Motherboard
    c) DDR4 memory (if using DDR4 setup)
    d) Windows 10 Home 64-bit (or Pro version)
    - *you need new Windows license anyway, so might as well get W10 for DX12 compatibility etc., then sell the motherboard, APU, DDR3 memory, and Windows 8 together as the core of another computer (or just KEEP it and put in another case or buy a NEW case for the newer motherboard)

    e) then you have to reinstall Windows 10 from scratch
