Is my SSD dying? Disk usage spikes at 100% and entire pc freezes

So I have had my Crucial M500 250 GB ssd for about 2 years now, and my PC is pretty used just for gaming, so I don't write a lot of data on my SSD. I started having the disk usage problem about 8 months ago, but it hasn't been a huge issue until now. Whenever I try to play Overwatch, in the character selection screen my SSD usage spikes to 100%, and stays there for about 15 seconds, and the game just crashes during the 15 seconds. It's also not just Overwatch that this is happening on, I've tried to run Star wars battlefront and that also crashes. I have tried multiple solutions to fixing this disk usage problem, such as Disabling windows search, superfetch, ahci stor.sys, stipping diagtrack from running, and increasing the page file size for my SSD. I have ran checks on my SSD as well, but it says its health is at 94%, and i still have millions of hours until the mean time to failure. I also have some pictures of the task manager and resource monitor during the 100% disk usage spike.

    Hey there, Bsmooth4324.

If you have important data on that drive, back it up, just as a precaution. After that I'd suggest that you try the SSD with a different SATA port and cables, to see if the issue still persists.
You should also check for an available firmware update for your SSD model and install it to see if that fixes things up. Also, try updating your OS as well if possible.
And last but not least, download an SSD diagnostic tool (either the manufacturer's tool or a 3rd party one), just to double-check and see if there are any specific error, not just percentage for life expectancy.

Hope that helps. Please let me know how everything goes.

  2. Alright, I'll try to see if switching out the SATA cables will fix the problem, I'll let you know if it does, and thanks for the suggestion.
