can i connect my vga monitor to my hdmi graphics card output?

i recently bought a new pc. but when i went to conect my monitor i saw it had a dvi-d output which means i can't connect my monitor to it without a big active converter adapter box that cost like 60$.
but the graphics card does have a hdmi port. so can i buy something like this http://ksp.co.il/?uin=16675
connect it to the card and it will work fine?
the card im talking about is the http://plonter.co.il/detail.tmpl?sku=GTX-1070-GAMING-X-...

  3. It has to be an active converter , there ia nonnative analog out on the gtx 1*** series cards.

    That link does not state its an active converter , I would be wary of it working if it were me.

    It would probably be cheaper to purchase a monitor with HDMI capibilities. It would also be worth it in the long run.

    Even if you need to downgrade to the 1060 series.

    You created an issue in your first post when there actually isn't one ;-)

    Hdmi-hdmi is absolutely what you should be using.

    Well, that's the issue solved.

    HDMI is much better than VGA and should be used if it's available.

    i also have a port for hdmi on my monitor, maybe i'll just get hdmi cable, connect it to the monitor and then to the graphics card? will it work?
