Computer was working fine, now won't recognize HDMI source
I bought a new computer a couple of months ago (Lenovo-desktop). We set it up in the kitchen and it has been working great. Yesterday I tried to get on it and the screen was black and monitor said searching for source- we have it plugged into a hp monitor with HDMI cable. I tried switching out HDMI cords thinking mine went bad, still same issue. I tried switching out monitors thinking maybe my monitor is acting up, still same issue. My computer sounds like it's turning on and working, but I can't see desktop screen or anything. Any advice?
The HDMI cable is plugged into the HDMI port on back of computer-I took out HDMI cord and tried seeing if the cable that comes with computer (cord that has blue connectors at each end) would work but I'm having same issue. Not sure how to check motherboard and graphic ports like you suggested.

Can you not open the case? Does it have a window?
The graphics card HDMI port is usually surrounded by other display ports, VGA, DVI etc.
The motherboard HDMI port will be surrounded by other ports like USB, Audio etc.
Do you even have any other HDMI ports available?
"...a new computer a couple of months ago ..." Warranty is still good.
Do you see ANYTHING, like the BIOS splash panel the comes before windows loads ? If you do not see this it's not a windows problem or a software problem. If you do see this then it could be a lot of things, post.
Do you hear any beeping from the computer... this is a coded error message that you can decode using your PC's manual troubleshooting section.
Do you hear FANs start up when you turn the computer on ? If no fans then time to use a different electric wall socket. Either the wall power is not there, the MB is hung (unplugging it fixes that) or you power supply failed.
