Best RAM for my i7 6700k on MSI GeForce GTX 1070 Gaming X 8G?

Hey guys,

I'm building a new PC and this is what I have so far:

NZXT Manta
Intel Core i7 6700K / 4.00GHz
Be Quiet! Dark Rock Pro 3
ASUS Z170i Pro Gaming
Logitech Chaos Spectrum G900
Be Quiet! Dark Power Pro 11
Samsung 850 EVO 500GB
MSI GeForce GTX 1070 Gaming X 8G

What RAM should I choose?

Also: for the power supply (Be Quiet! Dark Power Pro 11): should I use 550W or get the 650W?

Any other things I should know (newbie :))?

Thanks in advance!

  1. Per motherboard specs:
    "DDR4 4000MHz (O.C.), 2 DIMM, dual-channel"

.. so, You want 2 matching sticks (2x8Gig or 2x16Gig) with a the highest speed you can get. Right now that's typically 3200Mhz, but the board can support up to 4000 in overclock mode.
  2. 550watts would be fine. RAM speeds matter very little in most games, so if this is primarily a gaming computer your choice of ram wont have much of an impact on performance. That said faster ram is usually not much more expensive than slower ram. Here is 16gb of DDR4 3000 15-17-17-35, it should be a good match for that system. If you have any preferences in looks and color let me know and I will look for something else.

I read somewhere that a higher mHz might cause some troubles?

    Thanks, that'd be great!

Not really a preference as for looks, although both the case and GPU will be black with red accents...
Also: I'll do some video editing, but it's mainly for gaming.

Do you plan to OC the CPU? If so I'd go the 3200/14 GSkill RipJaws V or Trident Z in same, either 2x8 or 2x16GB depending on how much you want. If not OCing might look at 2666/28000, often above 2800 requires a bit of a OC on the CPU
