More about mother board supports core gtx 1060 ddr3
  1. What's the generation on the core i5? Since it is DDR3, I assume it you need H87.
  2. Is it K series? Which exact processor? Do you plan on any overclocking? How much money will you spend on it?
  3. Intel Skylake Core i5 6400 2.80GHz 6MB
i have a ddr3 (would like to keep)
    and a Gtx 1060 MSI GeForce GTX 1060 GAMING X 3G
  4. ANY modern motherboard will support a GTX1060.

But, we need to know what I5 processor you have or intend to use.

Past that, not all ddr3 will work.
Skylake I5, LGA1151 for instance does have motherboards that supports DDR3.
BUT... only low voltage 1.35v not the usual 1.5v that previous generations used.

Edit... I see you have some DDR3. Unless it is 1.35v or 1.2v, it will not work.
Sell your ddr3 and plan on a new kit of DDR4 ram.

As to motherboard, any LGA1151 motherboard will work equally well. Even inexpensive H110 motherboards.
Pick your favorite vendor and motherboard size.

And... since this is presumably for gaming, consider the $125 I3-6100. It is probably a better gamer than the I5-6400.

To keep your current RAM: PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

    Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-H170M-D3H DDR3 Micro ATX LGA1151 Motherboard ($74.99 @ SuperBiiz)
    Total: $74.99

But if you have less than 8 GB currently, I'd recommend going up to eight so you're new hardware can work fully (and if you're getting new RAM it may as well be the new DDR4):

Motherboard: Asus H110M-E/M.2 Micro ATX LGA1151 Motherboard ($36.98 @ Newegg)
    Memory: Kingston HyperX Fury Black 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR4-2133 Memory ($48.99 @ Newegg)
    Total: $85.97

  6. As geofelt says, you can't use normal DDR3 with Intel's new Skylake CPUs. They simply don't support it, and you can damage the CPU if you try. Either buy an older discontinued/used CPU or sell your DDR3 and move to DDR4.
