choosing between gtx 1070 sli and gtx 1080 single

Hi so i live in australia and graphics cards are generally abit more expensive than in the us and other countries and theres a sale on at the moment where i can purchase either 2 gtx 1070 strix card's for $565au each or 1 gtx 1080 gigabyte windforce for $820au given i have the money to purchase both 1070s and or the 1080 money isn't the issue.

However i would still like opinons on what you guys think would be the best value and if sli 1070's would have issues (ive heard they have a bad rep) i am kind of leaning toward the 1070's but i'm have trouble making my mind up!

More about choosing gtx 1070 sli gtx 1080 single
  1. Get the 2 x 1070's for sure as that is a good deal. You do need a 700ish watt psu at least is the only down side.
  2. In the short term the 1070s will be faster(in games that support SLI or DX12s multi adapter mode), but using a single 1080 leaves the option of adding a second later.
  3. What resolution are you playing at?

I game at 2k with my asus pg279q and also 4k on my crappie 4k monitor.
  5. The small performance bump going from 980Tis to a 1070s imho is not worth the cost. There is not a big gap between the 980Ti and the 1070 especially if the 980Tis are overclocked.

Yeah i've done my research and yeah normally i wouldnt upgrade like this but i auctioned up both my cards after seeing 980ti's sell for unbelievably high prices on ebay despite being used and to my pleasant surprise the winning bids were much more than what the 1070s cost so its a win win situation and besides i already posted the cards haha. This isnt the first time i've auctioned up computer parts on ebay only for them to sell for more than what the next gen would cost new, very weird but i aint complaining!!

    If you have 2x 980ti the 2 x 1070's isn't much of a step up at all.

I think you missed the part where they sold for more than the 1070s will cost. So pretty much upgrading and made money doing so which is a very rare occurrence.
  10. Dang that is crazy.

Yeah i've been looking on alot of sold auctions on ebay australia and it seems to happen very often where people over pay for used stuff not sure why like i said, but yeah i highly doubt this happens on the us/can markets as you guys get much better prices than us! :(
