Samsung m.2 pro 950 ssd garbage/trim control

Hey guys,

I just upgraded to a new motherboard with a Samsung Pro 950 SSD in the M.2 form factor.

https://m.newegg.com/Product/index?itemnumber=N82E16820147467

My last SSD drive was an Intel 520 series. It came with the Intel toolbox software that handled all the trim/garbage collection stuff.

I did download the Samsung magician software for the new drive, but I'm not really seeing anything about the garbage collection/trim features. I know you're not suppose to defragg SSD drives, so I'm just curious if anyone has any feedback for me about maintenance with this new drive.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

    The issue I have is, under 'Performance Optimization" it says that the feature is not support with Widnows 8 or higher. I am running Windows 10 Pro.

    Ok, that is what I was wondering about. Thanks!
  6. no problem

    and you can check if trim is working by opening a command prompt--must open as administrator

    and putting in

    fsutil behavior query DisableDeleteNotify

    then press enter

    should return

    DisableDeleteNotify = 0

    if that zero is a 1 then its not running
  7. Ok, I have done that already, and it did come out as Zero. I just didn't know EXACTLY what that command prompt was telling me. I didn't realize Windows 10 had built in trim. I used Windows 7 for quite a while.

    Thanks again for the replies!
