Asus Maximus VIII Ranger vs Asus Maximus VIII Formula vs Asus Maximus Hero/Alpha

Howdy guys, how y'all doing?

So, a few days ago I was installing 2 more RAM sticks on my setup and unfortunately it seems that I didn't install one of them correctly (didn't press with enough strenght to make sure it made the "click") which ended up frying both the RAM stick and its slot (I looked at it and there's some burnt trace elements (I don't think it's safe to try and put a new RAM stick in there and have the chance of frying it or damage anything else).

Therefore I was thinking that perhaps I could simply exchange my mobo for a new one.
Right now I'm using Asus Maximus VIII Ranger and I'm actually really satisfied with it, however since I want to take the best out of my setup and I don't want to continue using it with a possibly fried RAM slot and have the risk of damaging any other components I believe replacing it might be the best solution.

I've been looking into Asus Maximus VIII Formula and Asus Maximus Hero (and Hero Alpha) mobos and I'd like to hear your opinions on all of this. If I should get the same mobo I have right now (which imo doesn't make much sense since if it's being replaced then upgrading would be the best option hehe).

Here's my current setup:

CPU: Intel i7 6700k
Motherboard: Asus Maximus VIII Ranger
GPU: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 970 G1
RAM: 2x DDR4 HyperX 8 GB
SSD: 250 GB Samsung
HDD: 1 TB Samsung
CPU Fan: Noctua NH-D14
Power Supply: Corsair RM750 Plus Gold

Thanks in advance for both your time and support !

More about asus maximus viii ranger asus maximus viii formula asus maximus hero alpha
  1. I've got the Hero and it would be a great choice (mine in sig), the Alpha adds wireless/bluetooth. As far as the Formula would look and see if it offers anything more you want/need. If you were happy with the Ranger wouldn't think you need the Formula, but it's a great mobo also

Great I'm glad to hear that about the Hero !
Let's say price is not a problem, which one would you go for?

The Hero, I've built on a number of boards and worked with more, haven't really found anything better. Was thinking of selling my Z87 and doing another Z170 for the shop with a 6700K and giving thought to the Hero/Alpha, but not really a fan of wireless and even less of a fan of on-board wirless, most have antenna out the back of the case and can get interference from all the power cords that are generally back around there, I prefer USB wireless setups. All moot now, dropped the additional Z170 and going to put together an X99
