  1. Hey there, Marksnr194.

Does it show up in Disk Management (How to access Disk Management in Windows to manage hard drives)? If "yes" would you please post a screenshot of what you see there?

Basically the situation is quite delicate. This is because it's really possible for the HDD to have sustained physical damage and if this is the case, the more you use the drive, the greater is the chance that it may completely fail. So basically it's up to you if you'd like to try the HDD with data recovery software: http://pcsupport.about.com/od/filerecovery/tp/free-file-recovery-programs.htm and Ubuntu Live USB/DVD, to see if you'd be able to get to your files, or go straight for a data recovery company.

    Hope that helps.

  3. hi,yes it shows in disk management and when I try to initialize it a message of cyclic error pops up.can anything be done to at least recover my data?

Don't initialize it. This won't be good for your data.
Unfortunately if you're getting CRC (cyclic redundancy check) errors, things do not look good for the HDD. In this situation you'd better go straight for professional help, such as a data recovery company, so that you don't risk damaging the drive further while using it when it already has sustained physical damage, as previously mentioned.
