Should a network adapter plugged into a usb hub work fine?

I just got 150mbps internet and bought a wired usb to rj45 adapter. I also bought a powered usb hub to organize my cords and whatnot. Problem is, I get a very inconsistent, slow speed when using the adapter through the hub. When I plug it directly into a usb port it is fast and consistent. Is this just prone to happen due to the extra connection, or is my hub faulty?

Using a usb hub will split the bandwidth evenly between each port. Unless the usb hub you bought is a usb 3.1 variant. I suggest you dedicate a port for it exclusively as it will help with the bandwidth and the speed issues.
