AMD FX-8350, Hyper 212 EVO backplate with Corsair H60

Hey guys, I seem to be at a loss here.

About 2 years ago I built my first PC, strictly for gaming, my hardware is as follows:

CPU: AMD FX-8350 (running at stock speed)
Motherboard: Asus M5a99FX Pro R2.0
GPU: MSI Nvidia GeForce GTX 960 4GB version (Got upgraded from a 650Ti Boost)
PSU: Corsair RM 1000

Anyway, about a year ago, I replaced the stock cooler for the CPU and decided to get a CoolerMaster Hyper 212 EVO, which does the job just fine, however during the weekend my friend decided to give me a Corsair H60, factory sealed and still in it's wrapper, naturally I decided to give it a try and see what liquid cooling's all about so I looked up tutorials on how to install it on an AMD system since the Corsair YouTube channel seems to do most of their installations on Intel CPUs

I then realized I need the original backplate that came installed on the motherboard, since I currently have a 212 installed it came with its own backplate and it seems I have misplaced the stock backplate because I can't find it anywhere!

My question is, will I be able to install the H60 using the 212's backplate? I've tried googling it and the results have led me to this website from people asking the same thing however I noticed the majority were using Intel systems rather than AMD.

Thanks in advance!

  1. I would say no with the parts you have.

The Evo 212 backplate produces female threaded standoffs. The H60 design is looking for Male threaded standoffs.

A quick trip the hardware store and you might be able to find some appropriate standoffs to use. But you would end up using the Intel style mount and not the clip on AMD style one.

(I think I am correct in saying you don't have the little clips any longer?)

Yep. If you had a way to secure them to the motherboard you could just use that. But the idea of the backplate is to spread the load. I wouldn't want to risk having the potential to bend the board.

Could always see if you can track down a backplate. Computer repair shop might just give you one if you ask.
  3. ALL of the Corsair Water Coolers USE THE STOCK HEAT SINK MOUNTS for AMD! ONLY on INTEL do you install the Back plate and it WILL NOT work with AMDs!

Reinstall the original AMD Heat sink mounts and then follow the guide for the AMD mounting instructions.
