SSD wont show up as a bootable option

I have a Msi GT72S Tobii with a 256gb SSD in Raid. After 2 weeks of purchasing this pc (i got it 29 july 2016) my pc froze, so i tried to reset to factory settings.

After that my SSD didn't show up in either BIOS or windows installer, so i thought it was dead. I decided to reinstall windows through my harddisk just to see if it really was dead.

However it turns out the ssd is still working. After i installed every driver the ssd showed up again in "This PC" and Disk management, but it STILL wont show up in neither BIOS or Windows installer.

PLEASE can somebody help me?

  1. Hey Alex.

What do you mean by a single 256GB SSD in RAID. It was not a RAID configuration but you had your SATA mode set to RAID instead of AHCI? Set your SATA mode to AHCI (via your BIOS options) if it's not, to see if it shows up afterwards. You could also check for a firmware update available for that SSD model. Try updating the BIOS as well, to see if that fixes things up.

Download an SSD diagnostic tool and test the SSD for errors, to see if anything alarming pops-up. Give it a go with a different SATA port and different cables as well.

Hope that helps. Please let me know how everything goes.

I see. So the above goes for both SSDs? If "yes" then give it a go with the BIOS update. Basically go through with the troubleshooting suggested in my previous post, but for both drives. You could try removing the CMOS battery while having all drives disconnected, and connect just one of the SSDs, set the SATA mode to AHCI and check if it shows up.
