Solved

upgrading my 2009 alienware 51 liquid cooled gaming pc need some help.

well , now that dell will not help me with my gaming pc because they say its at the end of its life. I need help on my upgrade. I will be keeping my radeon 7950 hd dual video cards. I have a i7 2.8 processor turbo to 3.2 or 3.3 i believe. I can't upgrade that unless i upgrade the motherboard. I have a 550 watt power supply that i might have to upgrade. here are the specs on the pc except i upgrade the graphic cards a power supply. or maybe i should let it leave be. i was thinking of just buy a bundle pack of a cpu and motherboard. I am willing to spend up to 5 hundred or a little more for a upgrade. Any comments or suggestion are appreciated. Thanks BurgRat

if the plan is to upgrade the CPU, motherboard and keeping the RAM you already have i think the current system you have is the same as a new one in the performance aspect.
for a real performance improvemet you will need cpu + motherboard + ram
here is the sugestion for a real upgrade:
    CPU: I7 6700K
Motherboard: Asus E3 PRO GAMING V5
    RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX Red DDR4 4x4GB 2133MHz CAS13

thank you, priced all on amazon with a square trade insurance it alittle over 600.00
  3. what about a power supply?
  4. if you don't plan to do a GPU upgrade for now, your current PSU will handle the new system, because is a new architecture and less power demand
  5. if i went with your set up would my 550watt power supply be enough or would i have to upgrade that also .Prolly need a 850? oh i see if i didnt upgrade my graghics cards..... no i wont be doing that ...i have i lifetime warranty on these bad boys.goin to use them as long as i can.
  6. everything sound good ..just was wondering if it is overkill for my GPU's or are my GPU's still pretty good or are too old?
  7. i games that can use both GPUs correctly you will be still able to play in HD with no problems, and even with only one gpu enabled too.
but for 4k games no, you will need something more powerful
