Why am I getting such low fps on games with my new gtx 1080

Some games on my gtx 970 even got better results. My rig is

Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4790 CPU @ 3.60GHz
Video Card NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080
RAM 12 GB
Operating System Microsoft Windows 10 (build 10586), 64-bit
Acer MS-7869 Motherboard

On h1z1 i get only 60-80 fps as where my friend gets the exact same on a gtx 960. Same on some other games aswell including fallout 4, the culling, mad max

Thanks for the help guys

  1. What is your CPU temp?
  2. maybe it's your monitor limiting it?

It's H1Z1... that game it an utter mess optimization wise and I'm amazed you got higher than 60FPS, my GTX 970 went between 50-60fps no matter what settings on 1080p (I refunded that mess of a game)

Trust me if you played a game like Witcher 3 on for example you'd be playing ultra above 60fps. I can play Ultra textures and everything else high with AA on a GTX 970 no problem constant vysnced 60fps.

H1Z1 is not a good example of what the GTX 1080 can do.
Try running near to full maxed out:
    ARMA 3
    Killing Floor 2
    Fallout 4
    Dayz ARMA Mod
    Witcher 3
    Assassins creed Syndicate
    Farcry 4

Then you will see what your GPU is really capable of.

Some games on 1440p need the settings turned down, especially the AA settings.
  4. Well, I have a very old AMD Phenom II x6 1090t @ 3.8ghz with a simple R9 380 and have 120~fps on mid/high settings. Maybe its not very fully optimized but they did an update a couple of months ago that increased my fps a bit.
