GTX 1070 + FX 8320 @ 4.2GHz = Having issues! Please Help!

Hi.
I've recently paired the card and the processor. This is my config as of now.

Asus M5A97 R2.0
FX 8320 @ 4.2 GHz
Corsair Value Select DDR3 @ 1600MHz
MSI GeForce GTX 1070 Gaming X 8GB
SSD: Samsung Evo 750
HDD: Seagate 1TB 7200rpm
SMPS: CM Thunder 500W

The problem I think im having is I'm unable to get constant 60, even 50 while playing games (1080p) like:

- GTAV Ultra Graphics (MSAA 4X) Vsync on - I get 50 constant with frequent drops to early 40s. Unable to maintain 60 constant. It does touch 60 though.

- Hitman 2016 DX12 High Vsync on - average fps is higher 40s, drops to 30s and 50s at times. Point to note, when in no crowd areas, it reaches higher 50s and constant 60s.

HOWEVER I get constant 60 while playing Witcher 3 at High to Very High with no drops.

Someone please help me out. Is there a processor bottleneck?
Do i need a better SMPS?
Or is something wrong with the card?

Thanks!

No GPU will always provide 60+ FPS in some games. Most the time the drops are because the CPU is not fast enough, and the fact the game demanded more from the CPU than it is capable of. No CPU is immune to drops in some games, but to make matters worse, your CPU is not a very good one for gaming.

Edit: V-sync also plays a part. If the system cannot maintain 60 FPS (or what ever your refresh rate is), then if the game uses a double buffering system, it'll drop the FPS in half. Triple buffering would allow it to be closer to 60 FPS than with double buffering, but it adds added latency when you do reach that refresh rate (SLI/CF will behave as if you have triple buffering).
  2. I'll simplify the above - turn off v-sync.
Start thinking about getting i7 or at very least i5.
  3. i disagree... i have an amd 6300 and a gtx 1070 windforce and im getting 120 fps average and cpu is stable at 3.8 ghz ... im not an expert but try upgrading to better motherboard that u could upgrade better memory clock speeds or liquid cooling for cpu

You only get an average of 120 FPS in "some games", but I know there are many games you cannot. And he's not talking specifically about the average, but the dips as well.
  5. Renate do you play any if the games hes mentioned? If not your post may as well be flagged as spam. As mentioned make sure all your temps are still in good ranges while under load. Also check cpu/gpu usage. I suspect you're maxing out your cpu and your gpu isn't being fully utilized

I know that , and i play all extreme games n i mean dip too the lowest i seen go was 90 fps
  7. Thats what average means

But what specific games? Because I know for damn sure many games will have minimums below 60. Even with a i7 5820K 4.4Ghz, some games will drop below 60 FPS.
  9. And yes gta v is one of my best games
  10. And hitman 2016 does not need alot to run and im getting almost 135 fps
  11. And no if your cpu its stable shouldnt dip that low exceptially with that graphic card .. fps will drop that low when cpu comes to a point it cant handle but like i said not an expert
  12. Intel i7 its crap only uses 4 cores like i said with that cpu uses 8 n if its stable enough with right equipment that graphic cards will not dip that low

You clearly do not have a clue. #1) My i7 has 6 cores, and 12 threads. It's way, WAY faster than an "8" core AMD processor (which is really only 4 full cores btw).

The reason you have this idea in your head, is you've probably been playing games which are old, or designed around high FPS. First person shooters tend to allow for high FPS a lot more than say MMO's, which you'd certainly have drops below 60. Crysis 3 would also have some drops at high settings, as well as games like Arma, while online, where you'd have drops below 30. DayZ would also have low drops while online. GTA V also has low spots, where you'd get below 60 FPS, where as my CPU might not drop below 60. AC Unity, also pretty poorly on lower end CPU's.

The list goes on. Some games are great, but just because you've found success on the games you play, doesn't mean FPS do not drop pretty low on many other games.
  14. Dont know if u know how to read but i said i play all them gamea u mentioned and never seen a drop and as for intel , my opinion its over rated meaning its crap , amd processor although runs hot but like the 9590 can handle any game without a single drop and the intel really run a 4 core

actually its just 4 really fast cores but games can only use half of those cores thus aking them useless unless games use all cores, thats why AMD can compete with intel when it comes to 8 core games. The cores use the same module. They still are physical cores though
  16. get an i5 to fix your problem. Im sure that is your issue, try to compare performance with others with AMD cpu's
  17. Amd is way faster n perform way better than intel when it comes to gaming and overclocking, my opinion

  20. Really u going by a 2010 bench score ???
  21. i had a FX 8320 paired with my GTX 980, and i was getting a lot of fps drops playing witcher 3, GTX 5, crysis... now i have a i7 6700k and no problems. My fps are higher then ever.

An i7 5820K is a 6 core, 12 thread processor. Get your facts straight. And you are off your rocker about 8 slow ass AMD cores being faster than a 4 core/8 thread modern i7, much less a 6 core/12 thread one. Games that make use of 8 threads at least gives AMD a fighting chance in some games, but a much faster 4 core CPU with 8 threads still beats it.

Hopefully, but it's more likely he's just very young without any knowledge of how they compare.
