How (if you can) overclock AMD Athlon II X4 640 CPU 3.00GHz

I only recently found out what overclocking was and I got a generally poor PC, spent most my money on the monitor, keyboard, mouse, headset, ect.

I plan on buying a new graphics card but i only $100 to spend (Australian Dollars) and have been looking at the Gigabyte Radeon R7 250X OC 2GB but there website is out of them at the moment, the next best thing is Sapphire Radeon R7 240 2GB but being $20 probably wouldn't be the best either but compared to what i have now should be decent enough, anyways.

from what I know and tell me if im wrong but overclocking boost your CPU and essentially makes your pc go faster. I'm using windows 10 (64 bit) if that means anything and my graphics card is ATI Radeon 3000 Graphics i've also seen overclocking graphics cards but im not sure about the whole thing i just need to know if i can actually do it with such a poor CPU and if i can, how. As well as how much i can.
Thanks :)

you should be able to overclock the AMD Athlon II X4 640 to about 3.6Ghz. This https://www.techpowerup.com/forums/threads/a-beginners-guide-to-overclocking.22916/ is general help.

I'd be looking at a second hand or refurbished GPU. your money will go further.

  6. Although I'm a Kiwi, I'm not familiar with the Aussie second-hand market. A store that builds and repairs computers might have parts.

So after 10 minutes of eBay saw nothing but scams so I'll just by from pc case gear but with the whole overclocking I found the coy clock ratio and the minimum is x5 and max x15 counting by x0.5 so 5, 5.5, 6, 6.5 what should I do?

    EDIT:
Found out how, overclocked to 3.6GHz and did another benchmark test, the fps stayed the same the whole time but the total score went from about 510 to around 600, i dont know what that means but its faster :3
