RAM stock 3000Mhz XMP not working, unstable RAM, CPU, GPU OC MAXIMUS VIII RANGER

Hey guys,

I have problem with my KINGSTON HYPERX FURY 3000Mhz CL15 4x8GB. I can't get stable stock 3000Mhz with XMP profile, neither with manual settings. My MB just doesn't post and display on it says ERROR 55 (memory not detected)..
I managed to start computer with XMP profile 2 (around 2666Mhz) or with manual 2666Mhz, but it isn't stable and im getting BSOD sometimes.
I tried to raise VCCIO according to topics here, but nothing helped.

Also i can't get stable CPU OC, even with ASUS auto-OC, MB just doesn't post and then says OC failed. Or it starts, but frequently falls to BSOD.
I figured to OC it with some supersimple ASUS OC, which is stable, but too weak.

Last problem is with my GTX 980, i had it in my old computer with 2500K (CM Hyper 212+ EVO) with stable OC according to ( http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/msi_geforce_gtx_980_gaming_oc_review,26.html ).
GPU clock +170 MHz
Power limiter 122%
Mem clock +470 MHz
Volatge + 87Mv

It was stable, in my new rig it isn't, GPU driver is crashing down after few Overwatch matches..

My RIG:
ASUS Maximus VIII Ranger (latest BIOS)
Kingston HyperX Fury 3000Mhz CL15 32GB (4x 8GB)
Intel i7 6700K, Freezer 13
Kingston HyperX Predator 240GB & WD Green 2TB
MSI GTX 980 4GD5T OC
PSU CoolerMaster GM 750W PFC (RS750-AMAAB1-EU)
Fractal Design ARC XL - back fan replaced with Arctic F12 PWM and top fan replaced with 3x CM SickleFlow, but i guess i will change replace them with F12 too, because of PWM.

What's the point? I think i have good enough cooling, can it be problem with my motherboard, or do u have any suggestions?

Thx & sorry 4 my EN

  1. Hey dude..

Did u try clearing the CMOS, resetting the BIOS to factory settings should get you up and running..
  2. I did "load default values" at BIOS everytime when OC failed, is it enough?
Aand OK, i will try clear CMOS
  3. *When running XMP at DDR4 3200 MHz or higher, the system’s stability depends on the CPU’s capabilities.

even with your 3000 memory I got to wonder ?? things like this is why I ditched asus [high on hype low on quality these days not the same good ol' asus I grew up with by far] heck you all ready got 9 bios updates for '' Improve system stability '' how unstable was it to start with ??

also not much was tested in there list just a hand full of ram at 3000 and up ??

heres what I would do.. it may have issue with 4 sticks . try the set up with 2 in there proper slots and test

hey buddy, do u see the CLEAR CMOS -15 in Red on the Motherboard, you'll have to press it a 2-3 times and all your unbalanced BIOS settings will be reset..

  5. I had only 2 sticks before, 2 more sticks arrived yesterday.. Maybe that "old" sticks are defective, i will try to start only with new ones.
OH LOL, i haven't got latest BIOS, i have 1302, its 4 newer versions already out, but that fckn update checkers from ASUS kept this secret.
Ill try it, i guess i can install just latest version, not every single version.

    I wanted MSI..
"bad QC, buy ASUS" they said..
    OMG

BTW thanks all for only very helpful answers. I appreciate it, i never saw it elsewhere before.
  6. ''I had only 2 sticks before, 2 more sticks arrived yesterday''

that right there can be of issue , mixing kits as there not factory matched now as you get in a full 4 stick kit

that's for the most part a golden rule don't mix memory or un matched kits you don't know if the ic's were changed form your first order or not [supject to change with out notice]

Hey bud.. with all due respect,I don't know about other products but the ASUS MAXIMUS RANGER is better than even the MSI Gaming M7 as well as the Gigabyte Gaming 7.. I try to offer opinion only on what I have proof about, see the 3 boards in side-by-side Benchmarks ..

I see no official 64Gb Kingston memory part number support for your motherboard. so if its not official supported its a hit and miss running at high freq.

as you move your GPU from one system to another the overclock profile will change some. you will have to mess with it to get it stable.

    1. I had exactly same problems even before.
    2. I bough same kit - ( first HX430C15SBK2/16 and new HX430C15SB2K2/16 too)

sry bro, im stupid. Its 4x 8GB as i said before - so no 64GB, but 32GB :D
  11. only sticks in the same box kit are guaranteed to play / work together that's why there sold as a full matched kit you may now be down to getting the best you can from the 2 separate kits to make them work together as a set ??

one thing I do see here at toms is Kingston seems to get a lot of threads over other brands ?? but like I said reasons why I dumped asus got to where it was all ways something everytime I fired one up and another bios update for Improve system stability I think I gave up at 18th bios update for one of them. i had enough

looking back you board had all ready 13 bios updates cause in the cpu l;ist it shows 0401 was first release not 0801
  12. HX430C15PB2K4/16 only QVL for your motherboard at 3000mhz from Kingston still ur memory is not officially tested to work with that mothboard
  13. That's so bad, i didnt know that it can be any problem when its DDR4, same frequency too, even same P/N..thats weird.
I know, they did not tested it, but why couldnt it be compatible? Yes, i see its some reasons, i didnt know before :(
  14. srtill could be ? until you get more memory [like a gskill or corsair kit] to try and test to prove ?? just because its not on the list don't mean its not goting to work should be as easy as setting the xmp 99% of the time ??? then theres still that 1% factor

maybe tradesman1 will pop in here with some good advice . hes pretty slick at memory
  15. Even being on the motherboard approved list isn't always a guarantee of success. I had a customer buy a Gigabyte and some of the "approved" RAM listed on their website and it crashed and didn't work. New platforms seem like they are extra finicky when they 1st come out. Mixing RAM kits is usually doomed to cause crashes.

What happens if you just use one of the kits at a time is it stable? If nothing else works the Summer Solstice is in late June.

Nope. XMP Profile 1 ERROR 55 with first and second kits alone. Tried both kits, both slots.
    Updated to latest BIOS.

Running at 4530Mhz with ASUS EZ auto-tune (103x44) or whatever is that called, i bet i will get BSOD after few Overwatch games again :(

I spend so much money for this sh** and its not working even with high-end HW.. so im running RAM at 2133Mhz for a price of 3000Mhz..so i gave 60$ difference for nothing. And im spending evenings with so many problems :(
  17. Best answer
'' I spend so much money for this sh** and its not working '' yes sir been there done that don't feel like the lone ranger on that statement

I thought about bringing this up but did not now see that error 55 I seen it before with cpu coolers over tightened or there backplate on wrong or shorting [cant hurt to take a look ]

    http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-2204966/asus-maximus-extreme-booting-problem-error.html
  18. I can take a look, but it doesn't make a sense, RAM kits are working 100% OK at 2133Mhz.. at 2666Mhz, they falls to BSOD sometimes..300Mhz = Error 55..
with that problem, they would not work even with 2133Mhz right?
  19. I see what you mean but that error 55 ??? you would think that would pop up at any speed or memory used

whats also funny is I google ''xmp error55 '' how many asus boards pop up in the search

    https://rog.asus.com/forum/archive/index.php/t-74772.html

    http://forum.corsair.com/v3/showthread.php?t=149795

thing I also see on that its like the same as a failed overclock and why it can run at default 2133 ?? funny you got a ''K'' chip so I'd feel that xmp should of kick things in and run at 3000 easy ?

have you tried manually setting up the ram for 3000 ??

i'll look around some more on that error 55
  20. Woooow.. Ive loosen screws holding my CPU cooler Freezer 13 little bit, also for sure loosen screws holding mb around RAM kits..

    and.. OMFG ITS WORKING..
    ill do stress tests..
    hopefully we found a solution.
YOU DID. YOU ARE MY ROCKSTAR!
  21. man my eyes are getting bad I cant see that too well

so the cooler was at issue and things are in order at 3000 ??? looks that way ?? if you had not posted that error 55 I would not of thought of that off hand that clued me in
  22. yop, don't you have a "full screen" icon at the right botttom of picture?

Funny fact: stock timing has to be 15/16/16 and its 15/17/17 according to XMP. Both RAM kits same, so its ok.
And i have all 4 8GB units plugged in. Very good
  23. I got it I'm still not a young'un and a lot of welding jobs under my belt

    so your good ????

    now enjoy

by the way, what cpu cooler are you using ??
  24. Yo, that may be because you haven't 1920X1080, i see it clearly full screen.
Yop, its showing 3000Mhz with 15/17/17.
and CPU 100x44Mhz = 4,4Ghz, i would like to get 4,6, it may be possible, ill try it later.
Adjusted OC at GPU down little bit and im going to test stability.
    Thanks again.
    Im using Arctic Freeezer 13.
  25. well if it was due to that cooler mounting check it off best answer from my post above on it so folks with this same issue can check it out

glad it got you going and now you can cool off and not be upset

    enjoy your new build

odd being a push pin mounting of that cooler that issue came up ?? oh well your going now

see that 4 holes? There are 2 screws there, they were overtightened, that was issue.
  27. hay man glad it was a fix anyway and your going . that little extra info you gave went a long way I would of never brought that cooler thing up if not for that 55 deal , seen it a few times before with some coolers but never with a push pin type that was new to me . maybe them screws had pulled on the pcb / cpu socket ??

    enjoy
  28. So many problems with air coolers.
Im looking forward for new GPUs and possibly water cooling CPU.. I know it will not help so much with temps and noise, even against good air cooler like Noctua, but this air coolers looks awful and i bet that tiny watercooling will do magic with airflow in case.
  29. cant say on that you see lots of cpu water cooled rigs here at toms whit the old ''my cpu is overheating '' just as much as air cooled ones

now I do see where I would like a water cooled vid card and been eyeballing the evga hybrid like this

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814487144

even with a water cooler on the cpu you still got to mount it and your issue can still pop up with it ???

thing with me is as long as its working as I expect it to I never think about it after that just run it
  30. OMG :( 3000Mhz 15:17:17 XMP was perfectly stable, but when i restart computer, it just says ERROR 41.
That ERROR 41 looks like the same thing like ERROR 55, ERROR 41 replaced ERROR 55 after last BIOS update with difference, that now when its ERROR 41, i have to reset CMOS, with ERROR 55 - i had just to restart computer and it said OC failed..

Didnt figure to start again with 3000Mhz, even with VCCIO 1,25..
I started with XMP 2, 2666Mhz - but its not what we expected..
It looks like its not a physical problem, but that stupid mobo just thinks "no, its too much, f*** you" and don't let me start pc..just sometimes, by mistake. wtf
  31. dang ??/ again googled xmp error 41 and heres asus skylakes all over the place again ?/

    https://rog.asus.com/forum/archive/index.php/t-77209.html

it maybe a asus thing over all too many of them pop out in these google searches [just about all of them ]

''I just got off the phone with ASUS tech support with similar DDR4-related issues on my ASUS Z170 Deluxe, and he is sending me an advance-ship RMA replacement. The ASUS guy seemed pretty familiar with the problem''

    http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-2794454/asus-z170-deluxe-ram-issue-code.html

sad thing is its like why I said I don't use or conceder asus anymore my ''last '' 3 were my ''last''
  32. Shiit. OK, ill call ASUS tomorrow.
  33. recall I said above its like it rejects any overclock and only wants to run at that default 2133 speed

''thing I also see on that its like the same as a failed overclock and why it can run at default 2133 ?? funny you got a ''K'' chip so I'd feel that xmp should of kick things in and run at 3000 easy ''

one thing I see with some asus boards if yours starts to get a lot of bios up dates [like yours got 13 all ready ] as new as the boards are something's up
I learned the hard way on that one of them of mine was at 18 bios's and I knew it was doomed [ went asrock ]

may see if the place you bought it from will rma before asus you may get a refund and use it toward another brand board like a gigabyte or something to try out next ??

asus may take yours in a rma but you will get a refurbished in return not new [some ones elses junk]

I can try, but im not sure what to get. I have no chance get AS Rock, i personally dont like Gigabyte so much... and considering MSI, it was already said that ASUS is better..
    so.. its a trap :D
  35. maybe im a bit hard on asus seeing you can get a lemon with anything but 3 in a row from asus just was too much for me also my buddy asus failed as well with our am3+ builds and there rma ws no fun to deal with and got as I say a used board in return don't think they even referbed it just boxed up some guys rma and sent it to me in the hopes it worked on my end ??

I replaced the intel z87 with a asrock x87 extreme 6 pull all the parts off the asus and the asrock booted right up issue free first boot on first release bios aint had to touch nothing over a year latter [on it now] same today as was first boot

what more can you ask 4 ?? rock solid and stable everyday no mess no fuss build
  36. I've recieved a tip to set "Eventual DRAM voltage" to 1.35 or 1.375V. I tried it in combinations with VCCIO 1.1-1.25 and DRAM voltage 1.35-1.375 with both XMP and Manual settings and its impossible to make it work with 3000Mhz.
But i was success booting few times with 2933Mhz, Event. DRAM voltage 1.35, VCCIO 1.2, DRAM voltage 1.35 and 15/15/15 timing.
It doesnt match product parameters, but its so close, if it will be stable, i can live with it..
  37. sorry to hear that . just seems odd to me with that ''K'' chip it should be just as easy as setting the xmp . only way to know for sure is to have a few memory kits aroung from different brands and all to test them as well to see if its your memory or with any memory and could maybe blame the board or its bios support ??

then you see how many asus guys reported in with like issues as well ? tough call its not like you way over with the memory like you were trying some new crazy 4000 speed or something 3000 should be a cake walk on that build and -0- issue in my opinion ???

wish I had better to tell you

    check this out

Cons: -As of writing, there are NINE bios updates for this board. NINE.
-Bios won't update and simply sits at a pure green screen. Restarting doesn't brick the system somehow.
-Error 55 means the ram that came bundled with it won't work beyond default speeds. (Gskill 3000, low speed considering the advertised ram it can handle.)

Cons: Bought 4x4 kit of G.Skill 3200 RAM because it was on QVL. This Ram simply will not work with the XMP Profile.
First off you cannot plug in the RAM and get it to post. I have had to hit Mem OK before I could even post. After getting to the desktop I was able to populate all slots. Since then I tried XMP Profile in the bios but if you enable it will restart with q-code 99 or 55

Cons: However, it usually hangs on a cold boot now. Coming home from work to fire up your newest rig only to have Q Code 55 or Q Code 00 or Over Clock Failed errors (on stock clocks) is making me wonder if I spent my money poorly

Other Thoughts: Today after troubleshooting since the day I purchased the board I had to RMA the motherboard. I called ASUS and they walked me through all the steps I had already tried and realized the board was shot. I have had about enough of this motherboard. I am starting to think that all of these boards are trash. I couldn't get XMP working, I couldn't get my RAM up to specified speeds

Cons: The board refuses to boot when using XMP. I have the 6700K. I tried with Corsair CMK16GX4M2B3200C16 and also GSkill F4-3000C15D-16GVR. Both work fine at stock 2133 speed. As soon as I set it to the XMP profile, it will not boot. I'm using the latest BIOS.

that's all I need to see so its not just you looks common
  38. Oh man talk about a twist at the end, WOW! Since he hasn't posted in a while I'm taking it that no news is good news. I really thought you solved it JM.
  39. got another asus looking to do a rma on his as well ??z170-e board got 2 different sets/ brands and none of them work guy from newegg reviews said as this review 9 bios updates but like I seen there were 13 , 4 been removed I guess to make things look better ??

anyway my ''last'' 3 asus were close to the same all ways something and never right

hope him good luck and a easy resolve

I see this on outher boards at egg reviews just now as much as with asus makes me wonder if its a ddr4 ram issue or a skylake cpu issue ?

like one review from a asrock

''The boards X.M.P. Profile will not support memory over 2133. [or the stock UEFI setting] Changing to the XMP profile changes more than just the memory timings and clock, apparently it messes with the bclock or other settings on the board. I cannot boot without freezing using G.Skill Trident Series DDR4 3000. [memory tested fine in memtest at rated speeds, simply will not boot all the way to windows without freezing] ''

    and giga byte

Cons: Where do I start? This board is unstable. It is unable to stable overclock CPU (i5 6600K) to even 4GHZ. Even stock speed with memory profile to 2800 sometimes PC would enter BIOS and tell me there was a stability issue. Once in Windows 10 no issues. But if I have issues booting up I may have to down clock my memory to 2133. That would be a real disappointment''

why I wonder is it not the chip [cpu] when its all said and done - but why asus reporting the bulk of this issue is still funny

I wonder if theres a issue with that skylake ddr3/ddr4 memory controller just weak ??

who knows ? i'll recommend a great haswell build its tried and true and stable
  40. Asus RMAs, that is like falling down the rabbit hole. They are so screwed to work with I've never had a good experience with them. Gigabyte & MSI are much easier to deal with when I've had to RMA with them w/o issue. I've had better luck with Gigabyte personally I tried MSI on my last build but I don't think I'll use them again. I don't see myself upgrading to Skylake and Windows 10, with all the problems my customers are seeing and what I've been reading about.

I'm wondering if it is a chipset issue since many of the motherboard manufacturers are having this issue with DDR4 RAM not working despite being on their tested list. Skylake transition is harder then it needs to be with Intel helping MS on Windows 10 adoption.
  41. I had a similar prob with xmp 3000mhz ram. What was solved installing a dedicated gpu. I was googling and there are some reports about intel's integrated graphics skylake. Maybe voltages settings for the igpu, causes some artifacts and flickering, there are peopple who RMA intels chip. I wish you could resolve your problem.
