7.1 surround cards and a stereo headset (Hyperx cloud 2 without the USB soundcard)

Should I get a dedicated sound card (Asus Xonar U7) to replace the USB sound card that broke? Right now, I have a Hyperx cloud 2 headset without a functioning 7.1 sound card.

That USB dongle basically broke and windows cannot detect it, so I found out that the manufacturer sells them for 30$. I am thinking of getting a the sound card Asus Xonar U7 because I originally wanted to get for my gaming laptop (crappy sound). So, is the sound card a good replacement for the 30$ USB dongle, or will it not even provide 7.1 surround in the first place?

I am thinking of just getting a jack extension and deal with it (I didn't like the 7.1 from the cloud II).

Nope, it's not a good idea since the U7 has physical connectors on the external sound card to connect to a 7.1 audio device. Now this is a point of concern since the inline sound card bundled with your HyperX Cloud 2 headset is a USB driven sound card that provides virtual surround sound on a stereo headset with the help of stereo upmixing.

My advise if to go with the inline soundcard/controller for $30 from Kingston.
