Software side after installing a new motherboard

After installing a new motherboard should I do a "true" clean reinstall of Windows that will wipe everything on the computer, or can I just do a clean reinstall where it will reset or delete settings and apps but keep my data assuming that I did have a previous motherboard.

Back up your data then format existing Windows partition to do a clean install.

In other words I have to make a back up for all my data and reset the whole computer after installing the new motherboard.
