External hard drive clicking for a few seconds then stop

Hi, My Toshiba canvio 1tb makes clicking sounds but the clicking stops and also it is still working. should I start to backup my files and replace it ?

    The problem you had discussed shows that your hard drive is in bad state and there may be chances that it can be fail anytime. If your hard drive is in warranty period, then replace it as soon as you can.

    I would totally agree with the other guys. The first thing you may want to do is to back up the important data stored on the drive.

    Sometimes, external drives could make clicking sounds when there is not enough power supplied to them. This is why, it may be a good idea to attach it with another USB cable. The ports on the back of the computer case tend to provide more power.
