Graphics card facing case window? PCI-e riser?

Hi,

I've seen some custom builds around the internet and some of them have the graphics cards fans facing there case window. IMO this looks awesome and I really want to do this. I have the NZXT H440 case so they is still quite a lot of room between the window and the mobo so there shouldn't be any airflow restrictions and the 3 fans on my GIGABYTE G1 Gaming GTX 970 are on 100% most of the time anyway.

What is one of these card things called. is it a graphics card rise or a pci-e riser? Could someone possibly link me some so I can see what they are called and what they look like without a GPU plugged into them.

Thanks for the help!

  1. Oh I didn't know such a thing existed at all? Some cases are just designed like that, for example a lot of Mini-ITX cases where the motherboard goes flat into the case, so the GPU's fans are facing to the window of the case. You sure this is a thing?

I'm pretty sure it's a thing because I've seen a graphics card on another forum facing the window and it's the same case as mine so whether it was a complete custom thing or you can buy them I didn't know?

Would this sort of thing work?

  3. THis is what you would need:

As well as a case that has a parallel slot mount on it (which many do to be able to hold extra ports)

What is a parallel slot mount? I have never come across this term so wouldn't' know what I'm looking for and does my NZXT H440 have one of these parallel slots?

Your case does not have it, I just looked.

Some cases have a slot opening that is perpendicular to the slots in the system (sorry I said parallel that doesn't make sense) above the slots. You can use this to mount the card. Your case does not have this, it would be where those two openings for water lines are above your slots.

DAMN! Was hoping that there would be some way I could do this but I guess not. Thanks for the help anyways!

Depends how creative you want to get with a sawzall. You could do it but it would probably require some cutting and a bit of welding, as you want to make sure the card is kept very stable.

Yh I wouldn't risk that, I know how to weld and I'm good at DIY but still wouldn't want to risk because if my card fell that's £300 down the drain so I'll just leave it as is.
