If i buy a game like from a store and have a physical copy, can I transfer it onto my steam account?

I really want to buy the old My Sims game but I can only find it on origin and I have no interest in downloading another game runner when I already have steam. So I'm wondering if I can buy a physical copy and download it either on to steam or right onto my computer?

depends on the game but i do not believe the sims is one of them. Games like unreal tournament 3 do allow for linking a physical copy (ie through registering the game key through steam via games tab... activate product)to your steam account but support for games varies according to publisher and the DRM they use.
