Awful Screen Tearing R9 290 120hz [Arma 3]

-Using the latest Crimson 15.30.1025 drivers for R9 290
-Using a 120hz monitor (have set screen refresh rate to 120 hertz in advanced settings)

This only seems to be a problem in Arma 3, and it's significantly worse in multiplayer. It looks like constant rippling as if I'm in water, it ruins the experience. I'm using default Crimson settings except for Global Overdrive had adjusted to my MSI afterburner overclock settings. Depending on my settings, and the amount of stuff going on, I get around 40-120+ FPS in the game.

On single player with nothing going on I get 75+ FPS with V Sync disabled, and I get minor screen tearing. With the exact same conditions I get no tearing with V Sync enabled at 60FPS. How does this make any sense? Wouldn't higher FPS on a 120hz monitor make for less tearing not more? I really don't want to have to play with V Sync enabled, as it seems to get rid of it.

  1. Turn on frame rate target control in global serttings. Try it @ 60, 90, and 120 FPS. Leave v sync off.

Trying it at 60 gets rid of the normal screen tearing and replaces it with one long thick line that extends across the entire screen and slowly moves down. Anything above that is the normal screen tearing.
  3. try 59 fps FRTC. curious if that changes anything.

Also, does it still do it if you set your refresh rate to 100hz in windows? or 90 or 75?
