EVGA GTX 960 SSC 2GB or Zotac GTX 970 4GB?

Im building my first pc
my processor is i5-4460

the 960 costs $224
the 970 costs $347

Im planning to buy a liquid cooler for $50 if i choose the 960.

if I choose the 970 then I'll have to use stock cpu cooler.

So my choice is
960 plus aio liquid cpu cooler
or
970 but stock cpu cooler(still $60 more total cost)

The 970 is the better card and the 4gb VRAM definitely will help with newer games. Your choice of processor is not an unlocked version so the liquid cooler wont help much since you wont be able to overclock it. You could always scrape up $20.00-$30.00 extra and get something like an EVO 212. There not that expensive and there are a lot of other companies that make similar coolers to it that all perform better then the stock intel, would be perfect for your i5 and run quieter. If your in the US look on newegg and you will almost always find a sale to save money. Make a wishlist and see what your options are. Post back when you finalize your decision.
  2. u dnt need a liquid cooler for the 4460 he stock cooler is fine since u cnt overclock anyways.. so 970 it is.... whats ur psu????
  3. My PSU is FSP Hexa 600w
    Mobo asus h97m e
    1080p monitor
    8gb ram
    1tb hdd
I only play around 3-7 hours a day

Im okay with the evga 960 ssc but
I might buy the zotac 970,is the brand reliable?
some reviews say it has coil whine, or is it luck of the draw?

Some games that Im gonna play are GTA V, witcher 3,fallout4,Ark,LoL.
  4. Zotac is as good as any other brand generally IMO.
Coil whine is the luck of the draw & also dependant on PSU - you can also get coil whine on the 960's.

For every game you've mentioned the 970 will get you high settings 60fps.
To do that with a 960 you'll be firmly on medium settings.
Go with the 970 if in budget - you'll be far far happier.
