Re-using SSD on new pc build

been looking for answers on this and have not found the answer. I have a 250 gig SSD in my current pc, which the OS is installed and I also use for games. I also have two HDDs in RAID for storage. I just purchased parts for my new build including another 250 gig SSD. I want both SSDs in my new build, but im not exactly sure how to go about wiping the SSD safely in my current build so i can install it like a new drive in the new PC. how would I go about doing this?

Also would you guys recommend I sync up both SSDs in the new build in RAID or just keep them as two seperate drives?

fyi: both drives are Samsung 850 EVO

Thanks,
Josh

  1. For the OS drive - You almost certainly need to do a full reinstall of the OS.

Do this with only the single SSD connected.
After it is all activated and working properly, just connect the other drives.
The second SSD is no problem.
Keep them as two individual drives.

The HDD RAID may be an issue. RAID 0 or 1?
  2. thanks for the response. The HDDs dont need to be used at the moment. Im trying to figure out how to wipe my current SSD so it can be clean for the new pc install. Def i need to reinstall the os just trying to figure out how to wipe it.

    During the OS install.
When it asks 'where', select Custom
Select and delete each partition, leaving one large space
Let Windows format that and install to it, creating what it needs.
  4. ohhhhhhh I for some reason thought the wipe needed to happen before plugging into the new motherboard! case should be here in a couple days thanks for the help
