Is Corsair 3rd tier power supply company ?

Hi guys,

So, I bought this Corsair CX Series 750 Watt for my new pc.

The problem with the power supply is that it makes weird noise + shut down when I go the full mode

such as playing heavy games or running 3d mark tests.

I requested the replacement to Amazon already, but still.

not sure how a power supply can cause this such problems when it was only used for like

1~2 weeks.

Full stress tests on gpu and cpu showed that the noise isn't coming from either of them.

And, I can just get close to hear it from the supply clearly.

So, the question is if this company(Corsair) makes poor quality products mostly because I thought

they make fine and high end quality products.

I use

4790k
msi twin turbo gtx 950
16gb ram
Asus z97 a

I didn't overclock or something at all.

  1. teh CX line in the last couple years has been made from cheaper parts than it was back in 2011-13. The CX is now a Tier 3 unit.
  2. To answer your question: No, they aren't. Any company (well the big ones) make high quality and also cheap low quality PSUs, which you bought. :P
The CX series is, referring to the PSU Tier list, in the last tier (Tier 4) and should be avoided, especially in gaming rigs.
Tier 4 PSUs are likely to fail, when there's a lot of stress on it (high usage) and you also shouldn't OC on a tier 4 PSU.

But they also make premium top quality PSUs like the AX series.
  3. So, failing within 2 weeks is not something weird?
Ok I will just buy upper level of power supply, but I never had this problem with
    other brands cheap power supplies.

Sure it is weird. Probably just had bad luck. I've seen, that a lot of people go for the CX series, because it's cheap and seem not to have these kind of failures after such a short amount of time. Main difference is between low quality and high quality PSUs is the safety in case of a complete failure and also overall quality. But since you got a pretty nice CPU, which can take some OC, i'd stay away from the CX series anyway. :)
  5. thanks for answers
I will buy 1~2 tier to prevent this problem
