Problem connecting ASUS STRIX-GTX970 to EVGA SuperNOVA 750 G2

Hi everyone.(sorry in advance for my english,it´s not my native language)
I´m building my first computer and I have a problem connecting the power cable to my GPU. This GPU uses one 8-pin connection for which I had the cable from the PSU, but the problem is that the shapes of the pins did not match.I mean the shapes are the same on the PSU and the GPU,but on the power cable on the end where there are the 6+2 pins one of the pins are not square shaped. I don´t know what to do with it,hope some of you will help me out. Thanks for the answers.

GPU: ASUS STRIX-GTX970-DC2OC-4GD5
CPU: Intel Core i5-6600K
MB: ASUS Z170 PRO GAMING
Memory: Kingston 16GB KIT DDR4 2400MHz CL12 HyperX Savage Black
PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA 750 G2

  1. true there keyed .. are you sure your not using the 8-pin for the motherboard ?? they all should be plainly marked on the plug

    looks like these no straight ''8-pin'' you use the 6+2 to make 8 ,right ??

  2. I´m sure I´m not using the 8-pin for motherboard because on the cable I tried to use it says VGA,so I think it is supposed to be for the graphic card.Or am I wrong?
  3. ya, should only use the 6+2 pin leds I see at evga the cables are marked that way ? [vga ??]

    all I can say is the correct led would be the 6+2 that makes 8 goes in to the card the full solid 8 pin goes into the psu and thers 4 of them ??

    Yes there was 4 of them in the package.
  5. looks like the one ?? the solid full 8 pin goes in to the back of the psu and the 6+2 [split end] fits in the card ??

    that pic you posted the ends look pretty chewed up. did you do that trying to force them in ??

    cant believe all 4 leds are wrong/bad from evga you may want to look at the female end of things on the card ?? they should fit right in together fairly easy and correct

    one thing I guess I need to ask is are you putting the 6 pin part in the correct part of the 8- pin female end then the 2 pin part in the correct 2 remaining openings ??

  8. i see now ?? i got out my spare seasonic pci-e leds and looked at it and funny the 2 pin part of mine are 1 square and one rounded just like shown on the card you posted but i see the evga is 2 rounded ?? wow

    well as still see it thers only one way the 6 pin will fit that's easy to see then i guess the 2 pin can only go in one way due to the flat sides of the plug can still only go in one way ??

  9. Hello again. I just sent a private message to EVGA_ChrisB, hope he had a solution for this. Anyway I tried to connect the cable and the 6-pin part goes in easily, the 2-pin part goes in too with a very little resistance, I don´t have to force it, I just don´t know if I can use it that way. I will wait for ChrisB´s answer or from anybody who knows if it´s a problem putting round pegs in square holes.

    I just checked and I have this issue with the motherboard too,where there are two pegs rounded on the motherboard side (4+4 pins) which are squared on the PSU side. They can be fitted easily though.

    Thats the correct way to use it, the solid 8 pin way goes into the PSU, the 6+2 part goes into the Graphics card.

    It will only fit one way (there is also a latch on the connector on both the card and the plugs going into the card. Yes some are not square shaped.
  13. Yes i know they can be fitted only one way I was just worried about the square/rounded shapes. I never builded a PC before and I don´t want to mess up something so I rather asked. Thanks anyway.

  15. that's how its used if just the 6 pin part is needed you plug it in and let the 2 pin pigtail hang if 8 pin is needed you plug the 6 pin in along with the 2 pin to make 8

    funny thing is all the plugs I looked at evga so far was the only one I seen that was not ''keyed'' correctly all I seen was like my seasonic one square and one rounded as like the female part on the card not 2 rounded as evgas ?

    I can confirm that the connector that you have pictured is the 6+2 VGA connector and that you should not have any issues with fitting the connector. Please do not hesitate to let us know if you should need further help and I am very sorry for any confusion. Support@evga.com
  17. I´m connected the PSU with the components in my PC and looks like everything works fine at the moment, and the fact that some connectors have round shape doesn´t cause any trouble - as it was confirmed by Chris.
