My Seagate USB 2.0 External Hard Drive 1 TB USB 2.0 External Hard Drive ST310005EXA101-RK - Black

why won't my hard drive work anymore? It was working fine as I was working on the desktop with it then I need a file to be transfered so I unpluged it from the desktop to plug into my laptop and it's no longer working. I unpluged it from the laptop and pluged it back to desktop and still not working. what can I do to get the files that I need to get it working again?

Is it spinning up when you plug it in, or do you see lights? Your power adapter could have went out. Some of them have a built in safety and need to be unplugged for at least five minutes before they reset. If all else fails, you can always take the drive out of the enclosure and hook it up to your computer.
  2. Sometimes the controller in the enclosure goes bad but the hard drive itself is still good. You may be able to open up the enclosure and take the drive out and install it in your computer or use an external SATA to USB adapter to check it. If you still can't access it, the drive may be dead and will require a costly data recovery service to get your files back. Portable hard drives get moved and bumped a lot, which is not really good for the spinning platters.

Thanks Badactor I will try that.

I think what BadActor suggested about the enclosure controller going bad might be your best option. Take the drive out of the enclosure, and try it in your desktop. It only costs 20 bucks for a new enclosure
