i5 6600K abnormally high VCORE

Bit of a new overclocker here but I saw something odd and wanted to be sure everyhting os OK.

I just did a new upgrade to a 6600k and am using a gigabyte Z170X-UD5 board with it. I installed Hw monitor and ran POV-Ray benchmark a couple times to see what i got. Everything is totally stable and voltage in bios is set to auto (also tried manually setting it to 1.25 with same result).

HW monitur says this.

Any help. Not sure what to do.

  1. Looks like a bad power supply judging by your low 12v, 3.3v, 5v, etc.
  2. overclocking leaving voltage control on auto it is a bad idea, at least with previous generation and most probably with skylake also judging from the reading you get. try also core or real temp to verify. i would then reset to default bios values and try overcloking after reading this

as for psu rails i would only trust bios readings. software monitoring is usually inaccurate!

So I looked at the bios voltages and they are as follows:

    12v is 12.168v
    3.3v is 3.423v
    5v is 5.160v
    CPU Vcore is 1.128
    VCCSM is 1.056

Since these all look pretty normal is it safe to assume that HWmonitor is wrong here? also what is a good voltage for me to set if i want to run it at 4.3ghz?

Yes I was going to mention that software can give false readings! Your BIOS is accurate. A good voltage range is anywhere between 1.2-1.4v depending on your cooling. More voltages = higher temperatures. Look around for some guides to help you through the process. Best of luck :)

after some testing i have decided to go with 1.25v and 4.4ghz. prime 95 and cinebench tests are all stable and highest recorded temp was 54C

    Thanks for the help!
