Need to know if an i7 4770k can work on an M5A99FX Pro R2.0 motherboard

I have a rig that has an R9 280x Sapphire Edition GPU along with a M5A99FX Pro R2.0 motherboard and I need to know if an I7 4770k is going to work on this motherboard and GPU.
Thanks, redogg5

  1. Absolutely not. You can't mix an Intel chip with an AMD board.

    Hey,

The M5A99FX PRO R2.0 is built for the AMD 990FX Platform therefore it will not work with Intel processors which in your case is the 4770k.

You will have to buy a motherboard that has the '1150' socket type.

Would you reccomend the ASUS Z97-A ATX Intel Motherboard? My build is for heavy games like Arma 3 and DayZ and possibly Battlefield.

That board is fine, pretty high end too. It has SLI if I remember correctly.

4770k is fine, you can overclock on that CPU so you have a lot of leg room for improving your CPU. You could even get a 4790k

Awesome, and just making it very clear, my R9 280x Sapphire Edition will still work?
  9. Yeah, your R9 280x will still work! :D You have a PCI x16 slot, there is no reason why it wouldn't!
