Will my motherboard support a GPU upgrade to a NVIDIA GTX 980?

Hiya,

Just curious to whether or not my specs will support the GPU upgrade as stated:

Motherboard: ASus p8z68-v pro gen3
CPU: intel(r) core(tm) i5-2500k cpu @ 3.30 ghz
Think my power supply is like 600W

Thanks for any replies!

  1. The motherboard ought to. It's the power supply I'd be worried about ... what model, and how old? (am guessing about 4-5 years based on the age of the system ...)
  2. Think you're right about the age. Regarding the powersupply, well on the actual piece it says ''model : OCZ600MXSP" if that helps.
  3. Cpu and motherboard are good to go, but need to know the make and model of the psu.

No, that 600w ocz will not support it, ocz was not that good of a power supply.

Get a good 650-750w psu from seasonic, xfx, or evga (b2/g2/gs series).

OCZ's Modstream PSUs were rated pretty highly, actually. The one he has is one of the few good ones they made.

I'd still replace it due to age, though. OCZ has been out of business for 2 or 3 years now and quit making power supplies well before that, which ought to give some indication of just how fresh that one is. :)
