Hey there!

I'm planning to upgrade my old i5-4670K.

The i7-6700K and i5-6600K are cheaper than the i7-4790K in B&H.

So, does it worth the money or should I keep my 4670K? I'm not having trouble to run most of the new games but you all know how this is, upgrades are vital to chill my interior beast.

Anyway, benchmarks seems to love the new 1151 Skylake CPUs but I've seen a few debates regarding Haswell vs Skylake. Besides, there's no much difference between the 4790K and the 6700K.

Can anyone tell me if there's ANY pro (apart from have a new tech) in buying those two?

Thanks!

PS: Rig's in my signature!

The new CPUs are better so it depends on how much cash you have, but for most folks there are better things to spend it on (GPU etc).

UserBenchmark: Intel Core i5-6600K vs Core i5-4670K
Effective CPU Speed: 106% vs 86.4%
Intel Core i5-6600K - 1st / 851
Intel Core i5-4670K - 17th / 851

UserBenchmark: Intel Core i7-6700K vs Core i5-4670K
Effective CPU Speed: 117% vs 86.4%
Intel Core i7-6700K - 1st / 851
Intel Core i5-4670K - 17th / 851

I would wait. It's not worth if you consider the price/performancegain. You'll need to buy the new CPU with a new motherboard and you would also need to switch to DDR4 RAM. The performance increase especially in gaming will be pretty small so not really worth a ≈ 600€ upgrade.
And the change from a 4th gen i5 to a 4th gen i7 really isnt worth it too. No big gain for alot of money.
If you want more performance go for a second 980 it's cheaper and will definitively give you a way more significant performance boost. The i5-4670k with a bit OC is fine with a second card and your PSU is also fine with that.

Ya there's no reason to upgrade your CPU. People still run Sandy Bridge CPU's and run all games fine. Just OC your CPU if you feel it isn't performing well enough, although it should be fine at stock speeds.

The i7 will give you a boost in tasks like rendering where 8 threads are being used while in games you won't really notice a difference.

The difference between an i7-4790k and an i7-6600k is very very minimal. In some cases the 4790k is even faster.

So no, the upgrade really isn't worth it and just a waste of money.

what would be the purpose of the upgrade?

in other words, what is the build going to be used on? gaming? rendering? browsing?

anyway, I also share of the same opinion as people above me, you should stick with what you have right now, no need to upgrade.

Mainly gaming. I use my rig for work and stuff but the main purpose is gaming for sure.

Thank you all, I really appreciate your time and help regarding this matter.
I think I'll wait then and maybe get a new 980 as someone said above.

Thanks again!
