Reusing old Hard Drive for new pc?

Sorry if this is similar to my old post, I have just thought of something.
I wanna save some cash on my new pc build, so want to use my old Hard Drive and the current OS on it, windows 8. If I am correct, plugging it into a new pc would cause some errors which may damage the system or just not work. However, if I reset the hard drive to factory settings and then installed the needed drivers for the new pc parts, would it work? Or do I need a specific motherboard/cpu? Thanks!

  1. Why take that route & create hassle for yourself when you can start afresh?

Just re-install Windows 8 from scratch after you've installed the HDD in your new build (I'm assuming you have Windows 8 retail on a DVD of course).
