Why do I only average 30fps in GTA 5?

I have everything maxed out, but that shouldn't be a problem for this system.
AMD FX-8370
MSI GAMING R9 390 8GB
All upgraded drivers

I have witcher 3 maxed out and I get 75+ frames on that.

  1. The latest GTA 5 patch have performance issue. Probably need to wait for the next patch.
  2. Turn off the anti-aliasing. It is a massive performance drain, and most forms of it tend to make everything too blurry for my tastes.
Although rgd1101 is probably right about the latest patch.

My friends and I are in agreement that each patch since release has incrementally reduced performance on our PCs.

The easiest means I've found to increase performance is to reduce grass detail level.

Probably because they feel there is not as much need to considering that people have already bought the game however they did just patch the patch. Also it might help if you turn on AMD optimized tessellation in catalyst if you haven't already. I have a 270x and I noticed some slight performance degrades around 50fps on high settings to 45 fps or sometimes lower. I have since decided to cap it at 30 fps since the unstable frame rate wasn't worth it.

I agree and i found that when i turn it off i gain at least 15-20 FPS in most games.
when gaming at 1080 or higher AA is not quite as needed as lower res settings.
