Lenovo front panel connectors wiring problem

Hi there,
I'm about to buy an MSI 970A-G46 motherboard but the front panel connectors for the case don't match the motherboard's setup. The connector cable has 2 rows, 7 pin slots on top and 6 pin slots on the bottom. The motherboard has 5 pins on the top row and 4 on the bottom. How would I go about wiring this?

  1. you'll need to remove the pins (and wires) from the lenovo connector and put them individually onto the pins of the motherbd. This means you will need to trace the wires back to the front of the case to determine their function.
Switches (power-on and reset) can be wired either way. polarity doesnt matter since a switch is a momentary short circuit.
Leds have polarity but if you cant figure out which color is negative(ground) it wont really matter. put them on one way and if it doesnt light then you got it backwards. Ie - if the power-led is green and white wire and you put white to + and green to - and it doesnt work then switch them so green is on + and white is on - .

The real headache comes from the front audio and usb ports

When you say remove the pins, does that mean I will have to buy new connector cases for all the different wires or, unplug the connector wires from the mobo and test what does what in the new mobo?

Once you remove the wire with the attached female pin you can slide it right onto the male pin you need it to go to on the motherbd.
Since everything will be off & unplugged you dont risk shorting anything out. Before you turn it on, make sure you don't have any of them touching any others
  4. Many thanks. Will try this then get back to you
