can you have DDR2 & DDR3 in the same computer

Have a new computer with 8GB of DDR3 can I add 8GB of DDR2??

  1. No. Unless it says it supports DDR2, then no you can't

    Some mobos do support both. BUT one or the other not both of them at the same time
  2. No, they run on very different timing sets, and while some of the older AMD AM3 CPUs have both DDR2 and DDR3 memory controllers only one would be active at any time. Plus they're physically different slots (although they do look similar). The notches will prevent them from being correctly inserted in the wrong slots, and trying to force it can damage your motherboard and RAM.
